Impetus for a Better Louisville
Impetus for a Better Louisville brings together top decision-makers from business, higher education, faith communities, and the social services to share accountability for Louisville’s future.
Our Purpose
We’re working together as a team of leaders to pursue major opportunities and to solve major problems facing Louisville now - for the benefit of generations to come.
Our Principles for Consequential Change
Courage to Engage
Courage and the willingness to engage in constructive conflict within the community will be essential as it will be necessary to have uncomfortable conversations. Ultimately our leadership can serve Louisville and unite people to take effective action together.
Collaborative Leadership
We hope our enthusiastic engagement will inspire people to work together to ensure positive, consequential change for Louisville, the city and region we care about so deeply. As a leadership initiative, Impetus collaboratively and effectively:
- Seeks to understand the issues from all perspectives.
- Leans-in on selected and clearly defined initiatives.
- Aligns support as needed for others tackling big issues.
- Watches for emerging issues which affect Louisville.
Applying a Racial Equity Lens
Racial equity is a framework that promotes actions designed to address historical burdens and present-day barriers to equal opportunities by eliminating systemic racially discriminatory policies and practices.
At a minimum, we should ask and understand:
- Who does this benefit?
- Does this differentially impact racial and ethnic groups?
- What is missing that will decrease or eliminate racial disparities?
Our Priority Focus Areas
1. Public Safety
Restore equity and trust in the justice system, reduce crime and violence, improve public safety and wellbeing for all Louisvillians.
We believe in bold collective action to address Louisville’s public safety problems.
2. Economic Growth
Drive broad-based economic prosperity throughout Kentucky, increase income for all Kentuckians and attract more people to live in the Commonwealth by reducing our current personal income tax rate to 0% over four fiscal years.
We believe eliminating personal income tax will supercharge economic growth potential.
3. Education
Support JCPS' transformation into one of the most effective public-school systems in the country as it adopts and executes reforms in academics, leadership, and governance.
We believe every student graduating from Jefferson County Public Schools must be college or career ready.
